Specialized Housing, Incorporated, “SHI”, is 501c3 public benefit corporation organized in Oregon and Washington in 1981.

Our Mission

SHI is dedicated to innovative residential settings that meet the needs of over 400 people many of whom live with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and extremely low incomes. In 1988, SHI received the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, “HUD” Award for National Excellence for its “Bold Leadership” in the design and development of special needs housing.

Our History

SHI has built ninety special needs buildings in twenty-eight counties around Oregon. Many were developed for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in connection with the Oregon Community Integration Program or “CIP” that allows people to live in their communities rather than in nursing homes or in state institutions. SHI also serves as the Managing General Partner of two family and senior affordable apartment buildings and owns seventy units of HUD 202 and 811 project based supported housing for people with physical and mental health disabilities.

Our Goals

Looking forward, SHI is committed to serving our residents by preserving, maintaining and enhancing the important community focused housing portfolio we’ve developed. We’re also dedicated to the development of new urban multifamily communities that will let low- and moderate-income seniors age in place with health, dignity and happiness.
