Specialized Housing, Incorporated, “SHI”, is 501c3 public benefit corporation organized in Oregon and Washington in 1981.

Our Mission

SHI is dedicated to innovative residential settings that meet the needs of over 400 people many of whom live with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and extremely low incomes. In 1988, SHI received the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, “HUD” Award for National Excellence for its “Bold Leadership” in the design and development of special needs housing.

Our History

We are proud to have been a pioneer in the creation of fully accessible living environments with integrated services for almost 40 years. SHI has built over 90 special needs buildings in 28 counties around Oregon. Many were developed in connection with the Oregon Community Integration Program or “CIP” that allows people to live in their communities rather than in nursing homes or in state institutions. SHI also serves as the Managing General Partner of several affordable apartment buildings and owns 70 units of HUD permanently supported housing.

Our Goals

Looking forward, SHI is committed to serving our residents by preserving, maintaining and enhancing the important community focused housing portfolio we’ve developed. We’re also dedicated to the development of new urban multifamily communities that will let low- and moderate-income seniors age in place with health, dignity and happiness.
